Geneva Motor Show 2015

Today marks the last day of the 85th annual Geneva International Motor Show. The show, located in Geneva, Switzerland, is known as one of the largest conventions for car designers and technology.

The official website: http://www.salon-auto.ch/en/

On their website, you can watch videos of some things that have been unveiled at the show. This ranges from updated versions of current models to the extremely original designs of German students. The rest of this post contains some of the most interesting displays at the show. Enjoy.

1.  EDAG Light Cocoon

Edag, a German Engineering firm, has gone to lengths to show the future of car customization. Their car model, which doesn't have many impressive driving features, is still a show stopper. The outside of the car is covered in a translucent, elastic, waterproof material developed by another engineering firm. Underneath the film, the body contains LEDs that can change colors according to the driver's preference.

2. EXP 10 Speed 6 ... Bentley Sports Car?!

Bentley unveiled its plans to bring a sporty coupe to production. Dubbed the "EXP 10 Speed 6", the concept car is still in the works but hopes to compete with other powerful cars of similar class, namely the Mercerdes AMG GT.

3. The New Audi R8

It wouldn't be a motor show without Audi's beautiful trademark supercar. The new R8 has been redesigned with a few new touches. The amount of carbon fiber used in the chassi of the car has been increased, making the model 145 lbs lighter than before. The standard all-wheel drive can distribute torque evenly between front and back axles. The 5.2 liter engine is now standard, to match the power of Lamborghini's Huracan. The standard model will be V10, but a V8 should be released later, possibly with hybrid plug-in capabilities.

4. Quant F - nanoFlowcell Technology arrives.

Quant F, the model produced by nanoFlowcell, is an impressive looking car. Their unique flow cells that are powered by salt water are their claim to fame. Apparently, the flow cells can gain enough power to put out over 1000 hp and 0-60 in less than 3 seconds.

5. Goodyear's Electricity Generating Concept Tires

Goodyear concept tires

Goodyear certainly shocked many visitors at the Geneva Motor Show with their incredible innovation. There are two designs that the company has put out. One of the designs is an electricity generating tire and the other is a shape shifting tire that can adjust pressure in certain areas to create either better grip or easier roll. Whether or not these tires have a place in the future of cars is yet to be seen, but Goodyear has big plans to increase with distance that can be traversed by electric cars.

The idea behind the 1st set of tires is that the heat created between the ground and the tires can be converted into electrical work for the battery.

These are just some of the awesome things about this year's motor show, check out the official website for more photos and premieres!

Well, Technically it's a rocket powered bicycle.

Francois Gissy, a Frenchman, set a world record for the fastest motor powered bicycle today. He reached a speed of 207 mph and reached that in just 4.8 seconds. Absolutely incredible. And of course, he had to bring his friend along that owned a Ferrari just to beat his ass in a foot race.

Carbon Fiber Tires

Jay Leno has outdone himself this time. Just over a week ago, Leno posted a new video on his YouTube channel showing off some new tires on his Porsche 911 GT3. The catch is that these tires are made entirely out of carbon fiber, making them incredibly lightweight. This helps with grip, ride, acceleration, braking... so pretty much everything that tires affect. The only bad thing is that you might not be Jay Leno, and you might not be able to pay the $15,000 sticker on a set of 4. But, these may be a nice addition to your supercar if you do have the cash.

Watch Leno burn some carbon in the video above.

M600 Roadster by Noble is almost ready

Noble M600

British car manufacturing company Noble has announced that their new supercar (the M600 Roadster) that they spoke about a few years back now has enough demand from international buyers to go into production. The ticket price they slapped on these bad boys is 300,000E or around $450,000. So far, the car will only operate manually, but there has been some discussion of paddle-shifters.

Engine stats:
-650 HP
-4.4 Liter Twin-Turbo V8
-That's all you need to know.

The entire body is to be made out of carbon fiber, weighing about 2,600 lbs. Though there is no official release date, the Roadster should be released before the end of 2015.

Sick New Transmission
It's 2013. Your new Corvette is a 7-Speed manual, a beautiful american hunk of awesome. But now fast-forward to 2014 and its the beginning of a new model year. And the new Stingray is about to blow your 2013 out of the water.

Check out this video of a test drive of the new 'Vette.

"GM says its new 8-speed Hydra-Matic 8L90 shifts gears 0.08 seconds quicker than Porsche’s PDK at wide-open throttle."

Ooooh, look out Porsche. 80 milliseconds on your ass.

The 2015 Corvette is fun to drive on the streets too. If you're in the buying market, this is one definitely to look out for.

The Future in Car Body Composition
Would it ever cross your mind to think that a car chassi that had small dimples in it (like a golf ball) would be more aerodynamic? Apparently, researchers at MIT found a connection between golf balls and cars. These "Smorphs", as they call it at MIT, may be the key to getting the highest fuel efficiency of your future supercar.

Smart Morphing Surface, or Smorph. Image via MIT/Pedro Reis Smorph in action, image via Pedro Reis/MIT

How It Works:
These dimples are controlled by a vacuum that can vary in strength to match the needs of the wind, turns, etc.

Why It Works:
I don't know, ask the guys at MIT or watch the Mythbuster's video @

That's all for today, 'til next time I share something interesting.

BMW and Mini get Video friendly with GoPro

Today is a good day in the eyes of racers. Finally, a car company wants to help drivers record their awesome hotrods blazing through the streets. The first to offer this option was Chevrolet, on the 2015 Corvette.

Now, BMW is planning on putting this feature into their models starting July, 2014. BMW has teamed up with GoPro, a company that had developed cameras that work in extreme conditions, to integrate the camera controls with the dashboard controls. Users must purchase the GoPro camera feature (from the dealership ideally) and then download the GoPro app on their phone or in their car. The camera is said to have many different options, including a Night Vision mode. Sounds like crazy fun on the highway at night ;)

Toyota's Qi Wireless Charging Tech

It's good to see car manufacturers updating their models with useful technology. Now it may not be enough to make me switch to Toyota but I really hope other manufacturers catch on to this.

The Qi Technology is the latest in wireless charging. Basically, your phone goes on to this charging "pad" and Ta-Da!, It's charging! .. So how did that happen?

There are two coils inside the pad, one that is a transmitter and one that is a receiver. These two coils create a magnetic field that charge the battery within the phone. Now my only question is how this magnetic field may affect cell service. Not that its a big deal that you can't answer your phone for your drive to work, you big hot shot, you.

BMW LaserLights Inside Scoop

"Freakin' Lasers man!"

This was probably your reaction to BMW's newest innovation in headlight technology. First debuted in the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on the incredibly sexy hybrid super car (BMW i8), BMW's lasers have been on the radar for quite some time. However, they will be put to use for the first time in a professional race in the Nürburgring 24-hour race.

I myself am more excited to see these bad boys in the headlights of the 2015 model of the i8 (pictured above).
These laser lights can shine up to 600 meters, or roughly 2000 feet. They also shine brighter than all LED's, which should be important in the Nürburgring 24-hour race. But on the regular roads of downtown Atlanta, GA, well let's just say..

Don't get in my lane, because I WILL blind you. That is all.

Just kidding, BMW has assured drivers that the laser technology should be concentrated at a low enough angle so that it should not be an issue. BMW LaserLights will be dropping into showrooms in 2015 with the i8, so get ready.

Infiniti Q50 - Can it really predict accidents?

In Infiniti's newest remodeling of the G37, now named the Q50, a few bold features have been installed to help it stand out from competition. One of these features is one that can change steering effort, so that the wheel is easier to steer when trying to maneuver tight spaces and parking lots, and is somewhat stiffer when driving on the highway.

But more importantly and seemingly impossible, Infiniti introduces it's latest in accident detection technology: Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW). Apparently, this technology can tell you to break if there is a collision not only one car ahead of you, but two cars ahead. How exactly does this work?

Well, Infiniti has installed a sensor on the front of the Q50, which uses some form of radar technology. Using computed analysis of both the distance and velocity of the cars ahead, PFCW can predict a collision. When a collision is detected, PFCW will let the driver know in 3 ways: tightening of the seatbelt, an audible alarm, and a warning on the dashboard.

How accurate is this technology? Will it tighten your seatbelt at wrong times and piss you off? I guess that's for the consumer to decide, and only time will tell.

So today we are taking a look at the brand new, 2015 Lamborghini Huracan. It's lightweight, and a beast of a car, with a sick 610 horsepower. How's THAT for a Sunday drive? I personally would paint my ride black with black rims, only the most expensive of brands, of course.

This car was released in December, and should be available to the public before the year is over. If you're a rich person that loves cars, The "Creature Car" of 2015 is an obvious choice.

Buick 4G LTE

Now, I'm no fan of the Buick chassi design, but this is a cool feature.

  • 4G LTE capabilities means WiFi hotspot access .... from your car!
  • Buicks also come equipped with their own app store - The Buick AppShop
  • This feature is said to be standard in Regal, Encore, LaCrosse, and Verano.
In addition, Chevy and Cadillac have also decided to add this feature into their 2015 lineup. Yay for long car-rides with Pandora and online gaming (for those not driving of course).
